Disassembly of the 1911

It is very important to not twist the end of the barrel in the bushing, it will ruin the fit.

          1. Unload the firearm

          2. holding the 1911 upright pointing left, keep your left hand under the barrel.

          3. Move the slide back to unlock the slide stop out of the 1911.

          4. Pull the slide stop out

          5. capture the spring in your left hand as you slide the frame to the right with your right hand.

          6. keep the barrel from moving side to side .THIS IS IMPORTANT because if the barrel moves side to side, you will ruin the fit of the bushing to barrel.

          7. pull out the spring

          8. push barrel out of the slide. BE CAREFUL TO KEEP THE BARREL CENTERED. Once the barrel is out a inch or more, it is safe for the barrel to twist, as long as the bushing is not near the end of the barrel.

          9. use a tool to twist the bushing to remove the spring holder

          10. remove spring holder

          11. twist the bushing the other way remove the barrel

          12. to assemble, reverse above steps

        •

        • The reason for this is the barrel - bushing fit is very tight and not perfectly round, should you twist the barrel in the bushing, the tight fit is ruined.

Dropping The Slide On A 45

Don't drop the slide on a precision 45 without a magazine and round in it. Let the slide down slowly. If you don't you will elongate the lug holes, which will damage the barrel to frame slots, or fracture the lug, which can cause more damage, depending on when??? it fractures.

45's can be made with a "rolling trigger" or a "crisp trigger".

You should try them both before you decide which one you like. The triggers release as their names imply. The rolling one rolls off as you move the trigger. The crisp one just breaks.

I have a rolling one in my NRA 45. And a crisp one in my hard ball 45.  I Like them both.
